When space is at a premium in the bedroom but storage is still required the solution to begin with is a single wardrobe. A single wardrobe is simply referring to the fact that the wardrobe only has a single door. These wardrobes are generally quite narrow in width but they will still afford you a reasonable amount of storage space.
It’s the storage space that is the vital aspect to what you are getting out of your single wardrobe and although it is smaller than other types of wardrobes there are various options that will give you a diversity of storage options.
From the top to the bottom there will be the possibility of some shelf storage overhead. Even on top of the wardrobe itself will give you somewhere to place some items such as pillows or blankets. Inside you may have some hangers for shirts, blouses, skirts and trousers. There may be room for some more shelves or drawers and perhaps even some storage for your shoes at the bottom.
A single wardrobe can be placed virtually anywhere in the room with its narrow size allowing it to squeeze into some pretty small spaces. It may even work well as a corner wardrobe. The size means that if the corner is a normal 90 degree corner the wardrobe will become an unobtrusive part of the room.
It doesn’t matter what the existing décor of the room is, most modern wardrobes are suitable for placing in a contemporary bedroom. A lighter colored wardrobe such as a pine wardrobe can help to brighten a room and, in some cases, can even help make the room appear larger than what it actually is.
At the very least a new single wardrobe will allow you to remove the clutter from the floors, tables and chairs and will allow you to tidy up
At some point in the history of furniture the chest became the chest of drawers. Originally, chests were simple storage devices fronted by a pair of doors that swung open and closed. The storage within was simply a set of shelves or merely the open space in which to stack items.
The introduction of drawers into the chest came a little after the use of the chest and can be traced to a chest known as a Pennsylvania Dutch Chest. This chest was originally a standard chest that was later produced with a pair of side by side drawers at the bottom. Additional drawers were added to the chest until the final version looked like the chest of drawers we know today.
Other chests were also produced with drawers although for the most part they were made with a single deep drawer built in. The idea of an entire chest filled with drawers of differing sizes caught on pretty quickly.
Today it is expected that a chest of drawers sits somewhere in the bedroom to hold items of folded clothes. The different styles of chests used still varies with straightforward pine, oak, cedar or maple chests the most common but still with room for the more ornate chests such as the bombe chest with its flowing curves making a distinct impression.
Indoor or outdoor lamps are an essential part of our lifestyle due to the ability to give directed and accent light to whatever task we might be performing. As a means of background illumination they sit unobtrusively in the background doing their job, largely unnoticed. Yet they have also been used increasingly as decorative pieces that can either offset or complement the style of the room.
A teak table lamp is the kind of all round performer that performs all of the jobs mentioned above and has done so whilst looking good over a long period of time. The fine grained wood is particularly hardy and suitable for all kinds of decorative uses. It looks good in its raw state but it also comes up extremely nicely with a light finish.
The best known types of teak table lamps are part of a mid-century design style known as Danish modern. As the name of the style suggests it is a strong and distinctive look that was pursued by a particular group of Danish furniture design experts. Among a good many other types of materials that were used in this style, teak was one of the popular examples that came out of the era. It was used as an accent material in collusion with a variety of other materials to great effect. But teak was also used on its own as well where the beauty of the wood was allowed to stand out by itself.
No matter whether you want an antique item that reflects a past era or a piece that will sit nicely in the modern contemporary realm, teak table lamps will supply that versatility that you may be after. You may like the straight lines of an upright lamp stand that has been hand turned into a decorative masterpiece, or a more creative sculptural creation may be more the style. In either case teak was used with equal effect as the medium from which lamp stands were made.
So it’s worthwhile using a teak table lamp to decorate your room. It will last forever and it will look good doing so.
There’s a good reason why teak was one of the most popular materials used in the manufacture of table lamps through the middle of the 20th century. The Danish Modern style of furniture design went big on the use of teak in the mid-century and the reason stems from the fact that teak is an incredibly durable type of wood.
Teak table lamps were commonly seen in many rooms of the time as the designers used the wood as the base of many of the designs. Lamps weren’t the only items that were made during this time with sofas, beds chairs and sideboards all made using teak.
These days teak is a particularly popular material for the creation of outdoor furniture with the wood able to withstand all sorts of harsh weather conditions as well as possible insect and pest attacks.
The rich looking wood is ideal for feature pieces in the home and on the balcony alike with the wood offsetting other features of the furniture from which it is made. A nice pair of bedside tables will look a little incomplete without a lamp sitting on each of them and a teak table lamp from the Danish school of design will help to make the picture complete.
Teak won’t overpower the other furniture that it shares a room with, it is unassuming and helps to complement design styles instead. For this reason the use of these kinds of lamps continued to be popular with consumers right through the middle of the century to the end and beyond.
Spending a hundred dollars or so on a table lamp is not unusual these days, particularly when it can often be classed as a decorative piece. Teak is not an expensive product and the lamps that are made using it are very reasonably priced if you do some shopping around.
When looking to add some decorative elegance to the home there are a few different ways that you can go from a wall frieze to a sculptural piece. If you would rather combine a functional piece with something that displays your style and appreciation of beauty then you might choose to pick up something like a mid-century teak table lamp.
Not only will something of this quality give you a light source that will come in handy when you don’t need to use overhead lights, but lamps that were made during this period were manufactured following a specific style. The lines were simple yet elegant and the wood used was fine grained and particularly suitable.
During this period many of the teak lamps were designed by notable architects and designers and were then manufactured by leading lighting companies. They are both art pieces as well as functional lamps so they should be placed in spots that are considered on the peripheral edge in the room.
A section of the most popular types of table lamps that were made during the mid 20th century are today referred to as the Danish Modern style and the designers made a lot of use of teak as a principal medium in the creation of table lamps. It is still possible to pick up original mid-century teak table lamps that followed the Danish Modern style today.
